WebLion website revamped

New version of Plone

For the last year and a bit, we had been using a Plone 2.5 platform. No longer! We are now on Plone 3 (version 3.1.1 at the time of writing).

Why did we migrate to Plone 3?

  • Many WebLion partners are planning on using (or are already using) Plone 3 for their own websites. The process of migrating our own site from Plone 2 to Plone 3 has given us additional first-hand experience of some of the issues that our partners may encounter when making a similar transition.
  • Plone 3 offers some snazzy new features to make through-the-web site management easier than in Plone 2.5. We wanted to take advantage of them. Here's a full list of Plone 3's features, from the main Plone website

New architecture, new content

We've added some sections to the site. In particular:

  • The Events section contains details of our regular training sessions, courses we arrange with external trainers, conferences, and other events that may interest WebLion partners.
  • The Products section lists the most popular of the add-on software products that WebLion has produced in the last few years, and links off to places where you can download them.
  • The Documentation section has been expanded. As before, it features the WebLion wiki, which holds a wealth of technical and training material contributed by ourselves, WebLion partners and members of the wider Plone community. We've also added a new Presentations subsection - listing talks we've given about the content management platform, software products we've developed, and WebLion itself.
  • Information about becoming a WebLion partner can be found in our About section.

New theme

Given that we needed to update our theme product to make it work in Plone 3, we took the opportunity to change the color scheme and layout while we were at it.

We'll be tweaking the styling further in the coming months.

Does it work for you?

Please don't hesitate to give us feedback on things you like about this revamped site, and things you think could be improved.
