Plone 3 Released
Plone 3, the widely anticipated new version, was released August 21. It has many exciting new features, including enhancements to the user interface.
I can't say it better than Plone co-founder Alexander Limi: "This release is the most user-friendly, powerful and highly anticipated
release of Plone ever, and has an amazing amount of new functionality."
The user interface has been improved with the use of JavaScript-driven dynamic content and controls including in-place AJAX editing, improved content editor, and a simplified management interface. I expect that the Plone developers attention to accessibility hasn't changed, that the JavaScript is unobtrusive and that th UI is functional without it, but I haven't tested it yet.
In addition to the UI enhancements, there is improved content versioning and history, automated link checking, improvements to the industrial strength security, increased performance, integrated wiki and support for additional markup formats, full text indexing of MS Word and PDF documents. The full list of enhancements is available on the Plone site
At least 6 people in the WebLion development community installed the new release, using several methods, and on different platforms. All installations were flawless. Download a copy of Plone version 3 and experience professional quality Web content management.
