How much time will our IT personnel need to spend on this project?

It depends on the extent and type of their existing expertise. We provide regular training and coaching.

In moving to Plone, your staff will need to:

  • Theme your site: change the visual styling to match what you want.
  • Test and implement third-party products: hundreds of products are available to extend Plone's out-of-the box capabilities. Your staff need to find the right ones for you and get them working in your site
  • Migrate your content: move text, images, videos, etc. from your old site to your new one; produce or co-ordinate new content where required.
  • Usability test your site: get feedback from real users about things that work well and things that need to change when you redesign your navigation scheme and other aspects of your information architecture. This is particularly important if you are redesigning the look and feel of your site at the same time as moving to Plone.
  • Train your content providers. With Plone, you can give subject-matter specialists, administrators and others the ability to keep content up to date. You will almost certainly need to give your content providers some training and support.
  • *Set up servers: we recommend a "development" server for testing out ideas as well as a "production" server for your live site.
  • *Set up relevant authentication systems: it is possible to have people log into your site using their normal Penn State Access Account username and password.
* Not required if you use WebLion Hosting

We provide training and coaching in all the above areas

But we can't do the job for you. By helping your staff develop relevant expertise, we give them a skill set they can use to maintain and continue to improve your site.
